What is RIVER ?

Located in the valley-centered district of Madanpalli, Andhra Pradesh Rishi Valley School started a creative and dynamic structure of learning called RIVER, a community -based model of teaching, focusing on unique system of individualized learning.

The RIVER system, developed by the Rishi Valley School works on multi-level methodologies which is called the “education Kit. It involves the following:

  • Replacing textbooks with engagement learning
  • Creating a unique subject-based “Learning Ladder” with milestones
  • The students learn and upgrade themselves on the ladder
  • Building group learning environment with teacher assistance
  • Learning through art forms like puppetry and other practices embedded in rich folk tradition rural culture

How did River and Tide Learning Pvt Ltd converge?

TIDE bringing technical support, has enabled the RIVER project to get automated with low cost tabs for teachers and students. It employed the use of technological systems like motion graphics, animation, guided activities, talkies and music for subjects like Mathematics, Telugu, English and Environmental Studies.

TIDE till date has developed a coherent system of learning and teaching, covering more than 2000 schools, 5000 teachers and 70000 students in countries like India and West Africa with its programs like ALA, PALEC, KhuShi and ECE. See more here.

This, in conjunction with RIVER project by Rishi Valley School, gave birth to the RIVERTIDE project which aimed at employing a solid technological system of education in the elementary schools of Rishi Valley Educational Centre. TIDE helped in automating the RIVER program with its technological advancements.

What TIDE Learning needed?

TIDE’s aim was to reach out to as many students, teachers and families in the rural areas. For this, they required to produce higher number of audio-visual contents. It required a union with a production company which could develop the required content at an efficient pace and with high quality, which could enable to program to reach to maximum audiences as fast and effectively as possible.

SHIFFT Films and Tide Learning Pvt Ltd

In 2018, Tide associated with SHIFFT films where the company deployed its content creation and film production expertise to develop quality content for TIDE’s teacher learning system. Under the association, SHIFFT films developed over 30 teacher training video lessons for students of class 1st and 2nd for subjects like Mathematics, English Telugu and Environmental Studies.

Adopting the process of Design thinking, SHIFFT’s creative team, after the briefing, started working extensively to identify and design highly engaging content for young minds, which could inspire the students and fulfill their curiosities of learning more and aid the teachers with a tutorial for an augmented lesson plan. After thorough research, discussions and planning, the videos designed were simple, yet focused on making the learning experience joyful.

The Design thinking approach of SHIFFT Films involved:

  • Appropriate Idea generation
  • Development of an engaging script
  • Shoot appealing visuals
  • Post-production and editing
  • After effects and animation
  • Trial and testing
  • Delivery of created content

It’s unique design, effective teaching system and vision towards a smarter India has been recognized by the state government of Andhra Pradesh, which has enabled the initiative of RIVERTIDE and its stand-out educational design to reach out to multiple parts of INDIA. Children and teachers in the rural India have been greatly benefited by the program which has started a new wave of educational discourse.

The design of an alternative school has influenced the teaching system around the country, and more such specialized systems of elementary education are coming up. And with the amalgamation of technology, their effectiveness has been highly increased. The benefits derived from these schools are deep rooted in their students.
