We are now in the midst of 2020, and it would not be wrong to say that the evolution of human race, its intelligence and accomplishments have been commendable. With the growing knowledge and discoveries of science and technology, man has enabled himself to create a life greater than what was naturally bestowed to him. From the first automobile designed in 1886 to the introduction of the mobile phone in 1973, man has been continuously working through his scientific sensibilities to makes lives easier, more comfortable and evolved.

Today, we have gone one step further. What began in 1950s, has now become a daily support system to human life. It is the discovery and implementation of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology in the modern times. Since its inception and exploration, various facts have come forth. The discovery has been argued to be capable of developing the “super mind”, by Professor Thomas W. Malone, that could do potential benefits to the human race in the departments of work efficiency and development. While at the same times, people of influence like Elon Musk and Bill Gates have shown concern over the dangers of AI.

Though, the debates and discussions over the use of Artificial Intelligence has been in vogue for quite some time, it still lacks definite answers if AI’s gifts are over powered by its dangers. However, the term first coined by computer scientist John McCarthy has now become a household name, and has found its use, in a gradual and restricted manner, around various industries. Did you know our smart phones run on a very potential AI system?

Certain technologies have become a part of our daily lives and have automated our tasks, from the minutest to the crucial ones. In 2020, the trend of usage of these technologies is predicted to rise.

Households

Amazon’s Alexa is not the only AI tool at home these days. From the speech-to-text transition by google on our phone, to automate calculation of our Uber bill is powered with the AI technology. With its introduction, LG’s Home-bot vacuum cleaner has been in use in many households around the country. The bot cleaner running on AI technology, is designed with automated motion to skilfully wipe each area of the house.

Offices

Companies like google have made managing of our emails extremely efficient. From automated segregation of incoming emails into spams has been driven by AI to combat the improving skills of spammers. Award winning software like ZOHO CRM, provide the facility of AI driven virtual assistants to automate the managerial works from manufacturing to sales function including maintain records, designing work plan and providing result reports.

Healthcare

Automated systems in healthcare are finding their inceptions. Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare is expected to increase by 40% till 2021. Use of AI is being considered in the departments of Cancer Screening, Diabetic Retinopathy Screening, Chronic Obtrusive Pulmonary Diseases and many more. Current applied research suggests the need for slow introduction of AI. See this detailed report.

Entertainment

Use of AI is not new in the world of gaming. Games like F.E.A.R, The Last of US and Minecraft use interactive AI technology to make the game more believable and give the ability of free will to the player.

Along with Smart TVs by the technological giants, Virtual Reality (VR) films have also been introduced where by wearing an AI device on the eyes, the viewer instantly becomes the part of the film. However, the debate over making the use of VR films mainstream is yet to come to a conclusion.

Hence, we see that the AI technology has been welcomed at various levels in different sectors of the society. The morality and safety of AI faces questions, but at the ground level it has become a daily part of our lives. Now, we not only use the technology but are depend on it for a lot of reasons. From here, it seems only likely, that the technology is a part of us and is here to stay. We are indeed, in the future.
